College Tuition for International students

College Tuition for International students and how to get In-State-Tuition.

The biggest obstacle for an international student is paying for your College fees, tuition and other living expenses abroad. While some people are lucky to have rich parents and hence don't have to worry about money, the rest of us are not so lucky.

However, there are millions of international students who have successfully paid for their college. With good information and planning, it's possible to successfully pay your way through college.

In all colleges in the United states, international students pay out-of-state tuition. Out-of-State tuition paid by people who are not residents of that state. It is usually double the amount paid by residents. American citizens from other states pay out-of-state tuition for one semester and then after they live in that state for several months, they establish residency and are eligible for in-state tuition.

International students are not so lucky however. You cannot get in-state tuition even if you live in the state for years because you're not a US citizen or permanent resident. This should not discourage you though. There are several ways an International student can be eligible for in-state tuition and hence pay less.

If you are a graduate student, you can apply for a research assistantship or teaching assistantship. This is where you help teach new students in your area of specialization and also help a professor in his research. You will get paid for this work and are eligible for in-state tuition.

For undergraduate students, the opportunities for In-state Tuition are very few. There are some colleges where international students who meet certain performance criteria are eligible for in-state tuition.

It is important to do research on the colleges website, although this information is often not put on the college website since they don't want to encourage many students to apply just seeking lower in-state tuition.

The best way to get information about In-State-Tuition policies for a certain college is to find current or former students of that college and ask them. It's easy to find people on social networking websites like Facebook.com. You can search for people by school or location. Current students and former students from your country would provide valuable information because they will understand your situation better.

You can also search on google.com for colleges with cheaper Tuition, usually State colleges and Community Colleges.
